The University Data Warehouse (UDW) is a collection of integrated institutional data which can be accessed by authorized Faculty, Staff, Administrators, Researchers, and Associated Personnel with a business need to know.
The University of Iowa Data Warehouse was developed to provide the institution with the following benefits:

Immediate Information Delivery – The UDW shortens the time span between business events, like end of month processing, and information delivery.

Data Integration Accross the University – The UDW provides access to multiple information sources simultaneously, thus providing a more complete picture for University decision makers.

Future Vision From Historical Trends – Effective business analysis frequently includes trend and seasonal analysis. To support this the UDW contains multiple years, or sessions worth of data, and various point in time snapshots.

Tools for looking at data in new ways – Warehouse environments give users tools for looking at data differently. These tools allow decision makers to ask new questions and an opportunity to solve problems differently.

End User Empowerment – With the availability of data, and end user can write the query to build or modify their own reports. The warehouse empowers institutional decision makers by placing inquiry and analysis tools at their fingertips.

The data warehouse is a copy of transaction data specifically designed to give decision makers instant access to information through the usage of query and reporting tools, enabling knowledge tools such as analysis, forecasting and trending. The University Data Warehouse houses a diverse set of university functional information such as academic and financial student information, general ledger, cashiers accrual and payup information, central business office administrative data, human resources, payroll, personnel, Financials information such as vendor, voucher, accounts payable and purchasing.
