Why should I make my web page accessible?

Improving access

If you are an instructor and wish to make course materials available on-line, you should consider making your web site, and all materials that it contains, accessible. Otherwise, students with disabilities will not be able to access them. Access to information is critical for success at work and at school. With some effort, web pages can be made accessible and thus remove a barrier to information access to students with disabilities.

Federal Government Funding

UI web sites funded by Federal grants must observe the rules and obligation accompanying those grants. Under the provisions of a recently amended federal law, commonly referred to as Section 508, web accessibility is part of the contractual obligations of Federal grants.
