Macromedia has began addressing accessibility issues with its Dreamweaver
and Flash products. The company has provided "built-in" free
accessibility extensions for Dreamweaver MX and Flash MX that allow designers
to check their files for accessibility problems. To activate the accessibility
features each user needs to enable them in the Dreamweaver Preferences.
In addition, Macromedia
has partnered with Usablenet, Inc. to produce "Lift", a commercially
available software that installs into Dreamweaver and FrontPage and automates
many tasks of the process of retrofitting and creating accessible sites.
Learn more about Lift.
The University has
purchased several licenses for Lift that you can find at the University
Bookstore. If you have any other questions about software licensing please
contact the Campus Services
Software Program.
The Macromedia Accessibility
Starter Kit contains all the latest extensions and Dreamweaver templates,
guidelines, and techniques for making web pages accessible. To download
the Macromedia Accessibility Starter Kit go to:
Macromedia's
Accessibility Resource Center
and there follow the links to the starter kit. You may choose to download
the accessibility extension individually.
