Training

If you are a faculty member and would like to attend a workshop on web accessibility, ITS- Academic Technologies has included web accessibility training in its Dreamweaver sessions during the nTITLE and NExTT workshops.

The NexTT workshops are offered at the end of summer and winter breaks and are open to both faculty and staff who support instruction directly.
Register for the NExTT workshops.

To schedule a consultation about the accessibility of your current or future site please contact Academic Technologies at:
its-academic@uiowa.edu or call 319-335-5194.

For some suggestions on improving and incorporating accessibility of your site visit the Standards & Design and Resources links under the Consulting section.

Classroom accommodations

A Faculty Guide prepared by the University of Florida offers suggestions on possible accommodations for individuals with disabilities in the learning environment.

Faculty members need to discuss any accessibility issues related to courses that include web components with their students. Faculty should consider accessibility for registration materials, course descriptions, syllabi, and other course materials. They need to alert students if online course elements make use of inaccessible graphical user interfaces, interactive screens, visualization tools, or audio material to communicate essential information. If a student with disabilities discovers that such elements are used, the student should consult with faculty, their advisor, or others for guidance before registering for the course, and as needed as the course proceeds.
