Wireless networking allows the campus community to connect to the
University's data networking infrastructure without a physical cable.
The University is using a standards-based approach to providing wireless
service. All areas served by wireless on campus provide 802.11b 11Mbps
connectivity. We are currently in transition from an 802.11b to an
802.11a/b/g service to provide greater capacity.
The University requires all wireless users to authenticate to the wireless
network for security and service availability purposes. This helps to ensure
that University resources are generally available to the University
community, and it also provides ITS with the ability to respond to AUP
violations.
If you are having difficulty with your wireless networking connection, you
may also contact the ITS Help Desk by phone (384-4357: 4-HELP) or email (its-helpdesk@uiowa.edu).
If you have general questions about this wireless networking service, please
contact its-wireless@uiowa.edu.
More information regarding the ITS wireless service will be appearing
here in the near future to address pricing, protocol details, and the
philosophy that helped build the current wireless implementation on
campus.
