Streaming Service Player Setup Make sure that the computer that you are using is set up correctly to play streaming video or audio. If you need to add a player to your system, you can get the free version of each player at the following websites.
Installing multiple media players on your system can be tricky. Adding a player can have side effects on players already on your system. For example, the default player for MP3s and CDs could get changed. Always retest players after installing a new player version. Sample Videos The following table provides links to various clips that you can use to test your streaming video player. There are three clips. Each has been encoded for different play-back speeds (Kilo-bits per second) and in different formats (QuickTime or Windows Media). On-campus, you can likely use any play-back speed option. Off-campus, you may want to start with the 56Kbs streaming versions.
If you are a producer of video and your
viewing audience will be off-campus, you should try the 56Kbs slide versions.
This approach gives you a quality audio signal with still pictures.
* - Thanks to University of Iowa Professor Richard Fumerton for letting us encode a clip from an existing video tape of a Philosophy and the Just Society course lecture. Encoding Settings for Movie The following table shows several of the encoding settings for the various versions of the above Movie. This information may be useful to producers who want to compare different encodings and formats.
